After STOL Drag racing for 3 years at the High Sierra Fly-in and Reno air races around the corner, I had to come up with a better braking system. I originally had a Cleveland system and switched to a grove double piston caliper system but still wasn’t happy with the braking power. I turned to Beringer to help me come up with a solution, however nobody had put a Beringer brake system on a Kitfox before. After working closely with the wonderful people at Beringer we developed a parts list that would work on all Kitfox models. The results were amazing. The braking improvement brought STOL #4 back into competitive times in the STOL Drags, but more than that it made it an all around better performing off-airport airplane. The biggest noticeable difference is the lack of brake fade with the Beringer system. You have firm braking all the way to a stop, unlike the other systems that fade and leave you pushing the brake pedal through the firewall trying to stop the airplane. I couldn’t be happier with the performance of the braking and they are the most beautiful wheels ever put on an airplane.
